Device Compatability
uTorrent is one of the most popular file-sharing softwares available. This is, in part, due to the wide range of devices it can be used on. Currently, users can access it on computers using Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. In addition, uTorrent is also available as an Android application, allowing users to access files on phones and tablets.
Price
uTorrent offers multiple versions of their software. The basic version is available to users for free. However, it uses ads in order to generate income. Users interested in an ad-free experience (along with other features) can download uTorrent Pro, for $19.95 a year.
Features
The uTorrent torrent client offers users a wide range of features necessary for file sharing. A few of them include:
Free Version
- Set bandwidth caps on upload and download speeds
- Schedule your speed caps
- Have the software close itself after your files download
- Manage the software remotely using browser settings
- Low device impact
Pro Version
- Start watching torrents before they finish downloading
- Convert files to watch in HD
- No ads
- Virus scanner
- Playback on mobile
Set up Guide
Set up for uTorrent is fairly simple. Just use these steps:
- Visit the uTorrent website.
- Locate the version you want. There are a few different options, so choose the one that suits you best.
- Click the download button and follow the prompts.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Clean, user-friendly interface
- Many useful features
- Small file size
- Lots of updates
Cons
- Has ads, unless you pay for pro
- No plug ins or add ons
- Because it’s popular, there may be an increased risk for malicious files
Other Tips
Torrenting is a great way to share files. However, it isn’t very private. Users who want increased privacy and anonymity while torrenting should also use a VPN. A good virtual private network will reroute your activity through their own servers and assign you a temporary IP address so none of your activity can be traced back to you.
