Day 9 of Holiday Privacy: Close Your Blinds and Time Your Lights

Posted by Rhiannon

The holiday season is one of giving … and one of privacy risks, both online and off. Many shoppers are willing to throw caution to the wind in order to get the best deals on the perfect gifts for their special someones. However, holiday shoppers can have their presents, and enjoy personal privacy too. Check back every day from now until Christmas for new tips on how to maintain your private life both online and off during the holidays.

Day 9 of Holiday Privacy: Close Your Blinds and Time Your Lights

Our homes are filled with lots of expensive, shiny toys. TVs, laptops, tablets, jewelry and more. However, during the holidays, we stuff even more gizmos and gadgets under trees and in closets. They’re just ripe for the taking from any thief who wants them, especially if they’re visible through your windows. Statistics show that home break ins tend to increase during the holiday season (and the summer months, for that matter). To decrease the risk, there are a few steps you can take. First, close your blinds. This, quite simply, prevents potential thieves from seeing what they may steal from you. Second, if you plan on leaving your house (especially for an extended period of time, like a vacation), set your lights on auto-timers. A house that sits dark for days at a time signals that no one is home to notice a break in, but timed lights show that someone may be home.

Come back tomorrow for another holiday privacy tip and check out the one from yesterday here!
