Day 10 of Holiday Privacy: Don’t Share Your Holiday Plans Online
Social media is a great place to share details about our lives with others. However, oversharing is also a problem. No, we don’t just mean that it’s annoying seeing play-by-plays of your friends’ relationship troubles, or the eight millionth photo of their newborn baby (even if it is). Instead, oversharing details about your own life can lead to safety issues, especially around the holidays. Many people use the season as an excuse to take a vacation somewhere nice and warm, or to a place with great skiing. However, by posting about your holiday plans on social media before the fact, you alert the public that your house is going to be empty and the perfect target for thieves. If you want to post about your vacation, do so only after you have returned. This also allows you to share all those awesome beach pictures to make everyone super jealous.
Come back tomorrow for another holiday privacy tip and check out the one from yesterday here!
